During my time of residence when I arrived in Paris I noticed some differences and changes that could be transferred to Barcelona. One of the initiatives that most attracted me to the French capital is the way in which they are working to reduce the use of cars in and around the cities in a sustainable way..
In addition to increasing the use and accessibility of bicycles and scooters, from 2021 Paris City Council has chosen to encourage the use of electric vehicles for all professionals who depend on their use. Thus, not only was a free card for professionals launched, but the French government also agreed to financial support for the purchase of these vehicles.
While Barcelona is adopting similar measures to Paris to reduce pollution and traffic, restrictions on private cars in the city centre have led to discussions on how to integrate transport into everyday life.
For the Catalan capital to contribute to safer, more integrated and sustainable mobility, the use of electric and shared cars could be encouraged through discounted parking, improved public transport, an expanded network of safe bike lanes, and combined with technology and infrastructure to make the process more efficient.
